Since the beginning of 2023, climate change has played a major role in increasing the number of displacement cases due to heavy rains and floods, which led to the displacement of a number of families in search of a safe place.

On a rainy night, and unusually, the rains worsened in the Yarakh area in Al-Dhalea governorate, thunder increased and the buildings were swept away by floods. The homes of 48 families were damaged and they were forced to leave their homes to save their lives.

Hamid Hassan, 40, is one of those affected by the rain and floods catastrophes. “The torrential rains damaged my house a lot, and I had to flee my family  in search of a safe shelter for us,” Hamid said.

Families were unable to take  their necessary and important requirements and needs when they left their affected homes , which increased  their needs and they could not provide them and became unable to provide the lowest basic requirements.

This necessitated urgent  intervention  through the rapid response team of DEEM organization, funded by UNFPA, which provided emergency needs consisting of a food bag, a dignity bag containing some clothes and a health bag, in addition to water bottles .

Hamid adds, “We received this assistance when we needed it most, because we lost  most basic needs for living, and regardless of being in the same area in which we lived, our lives were turned upside down as a result of what happened, and this assistance played a tangible role in alleviating our suffering.”
