As part of the field efforts to assess the damage caused by the floods and torrents that hit the isolated areas of #Maqbanah District in #Taiz Governorate, Mr. Osama Al-Qatabari, Director of the Branch of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Taiz Governorate, conducted a joint visit with #Deem for Development Organization team and the UN team represented by humanitarian officials from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The delegation included Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghazali, Mr. Ghassan Ali, the Water and Sanitation Cluster Coordinator in the Ibb Hub, Mr. Mohammed Farhan,Dr. Hossam Qasim, Reproductive Health and Emergency Response Officer, United Nations Population Fund In Ibb, the Emergency Officer at UNICEF, Mr. Ala Najeeb, the Emergency Officer at the World Health Organization, Mr. Abdul Salam Mohammed, Programme Officer at World Food Programme, Mr. Fouad Dabwan, and the Livelihood Projects Officer at the World Food Program, Mr. Aidaroos Taha.
During the visit, the delegation observed the damage caused by the floods and rains to agricultural lands, drinking water wells, citizens’ homes, roads, and agricultural terraces in the isolation of Bani Saif, Al-Karabda, Al-Sawagin, Mahraqah, Baydah, Akhdoud A’la, and the village of Al-Asboor in the Al-Malahitah isolation.
The delegation listened to painful stories from the affected citizens, who spoke about the disaster that befell them when the torrents swept through their villages and agricultural lands, carrying away dozens of people, cars, motorcycles, and livestock. The floods also destroyed shops, water projects, mosques, pumps, and agricultural solar energy systems, in addition to manual and artesian wells and agricultural lands with their trees and crops. The torrents caused the collapse of hundreds of homes, huts, and dilapidated camps, sweeping away their contents of shelter and food materials.
This visit is part of ongoing efforts to support those affected by this humanitarian disaster, provide the necessary assistance, and meet the basic needs of the affected families who lost everything in this catastrophe.
