The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Yemen (UNHCR), Mr. Marin Kajdu, accompanied by Ms. Fai Hong, External Relations Officer, Ms. Doaa Al-Bayad, Director of the UNHCR Office in Ibb, Mr. Habib Al-Nour, the field assistant, and the team of coordinators of the sub-clusters for shelter and camp management and coordinating their activities in the Ibb axis, Engineer Al-Ezz. Bin Abdul Salam, and Mr. Muhammad Al-Kinani, to the site of the displaced persons, Housh Al-Mahadh, in the Maqbana District, in Taiz Governorate.
The visiting team arrived at the Hosh Al-Mahadh site in Maqbana District, which is supervised by the Deem Development Organization as part of the tripartite sector project to support displaced families and populations affected by the conflict in Taiz and Al-Dhalea, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). They were received by the director of the branch of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs in the governorate, Judge Osama Al-Qatabri, and the project manager, Mr. Iyad Amir.
The visit, according to the UNHCR team, aimed to closely examine the needs of the displaced in the areas where they are crowded, especially after Taiz Governorate became a shelter for many families displaced from conflict areas, whether within the governorate or from other governorates.
The visit also came to review the protection, camp and shelter management activities provided by the High Commission at the Housh Institute site, which was targeted during the past year by implementing 194 transitional shelters, in addition to other services and assistance implemented within the project activities.
The visit included a discussion session on the impact of UNHCR’s interventions in Maqbana District and other districts targeted by the project. During the session, the director of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs branch reviewed the most prominent needs of displaced families, whether in the displaced sites or outside the displaced sites, and emphasized livelihood and economic empowerment projects, while contributing to alleviating the suffering of the affected families. From the current situation, and during the session, one of the heads of families residing at the site was heard, who was empowered with four heads of sheep within quick-impact projects, one of the project’s activities implemented during the past year, targeting 140 heads of families with 490 heads of sheep, where the beneficiary confirmed that her empowerment with sheep had an impact. He greatly improved his economic situation by using sheep’s milk in making cheese, making him able to provide the basic needs of his family members.
At the conclusion of the visit, the representative of the Commission and the team accompanying him expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the director of the Supreme Council branch for his efforts in facilitating the implementation of the project activities, and to the Deem organization and all its staff in the field, and they praised the work mechanism followed by the organization’s staff during the implementation of the project activities, hoping that they Continuing at the same pace in serving the displaced. For his part, the project director, Mr. Iyad, the UNHCR representative, and the team accompanying him, thanked him for this fruitful visit, which enhances the role of the effective partnership between the Deem Development Organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in providing services and humanitarian aid according to capabilities.
