Aisha* is a housewife and a mother of 4 children. She lives with her family in the northern countryside. In crisis, needs become double in villages due to low families income.

Aisha works on managing home affairs, caring for her kids with simple potential. “My husband  suffers from psychological disorder staying at home”, She said. The hard situation Yemen lives, poverty that attacks families leads some of them to compulsory psychological disorders.

Aisha said that her family depends on food aids provided by UN organisations. “We live on aids and brother in law helps in providing other things”, she said. 

Aisha assured that she feels helpless as she can do nothing to assist in home needs or drugs for her sick husband. She also feels that her family become a heavy load on husband’s brother. “Our affairs become heavy on my brother in law, and I cannot provide drugs for my husband”.

The economical crisis accompanied with the continuous war causes higher prices in basic accommodation and generates the worst humanitarian crisis. In August, a higher UN responsible said that our priorities in Yemen now is to stop starvation. He also indicated that more than 20 Millions in the country are in need to aids, 5 Millions of them at the edge of starvation and accompanied diseases.

Aisha said that once she heard about the Safe Space located near to her village “I went there, explained my status and my husband illness, and they evaluated and react with my case”. She added that the Safe Space provided drugs  for her husband enough for 6 months.

Aisha continued to say “They told me that I’m worthy to take training in economical support to be able to stand alone for my kids, send them to school”. She joined the Honey Cells training “We’ve learned how to take care of Bees, provided with 5 bees cells for each, chimney, food and medicine for the bees”.

“Now, I have an income source that’ll save my dignity and I hope to get its fruit soon”, she added. The last season few months ago that Aisha caught provided her with two more cells to her five ones, and not honey. “The former once my luck was new born bees, but the coming season after few weeks I hope to get honey from the seven cells. Naw I have an income source of seven Honey Cells”, she added.

Aisha assured that the Safe Space is following the beneficiaries’ honey cells projects through field visits, providing bees medicine and support. “I’m happy of getting medicine for my husband and I hope that I can reap the project’s fruits, sell honey and help my family”, she added.

Aisha said that her priorities now “Home expenses, sending my children to the school, continuing my husband’s treatment, and I hope to be able to build a water tank soon”.

Aisha is one among many beneficiaries from the honey cells project implemented by Deem’s Safe Space at Alaghwal area north of Taiz. This is a new project that takes months to start the enabling fruits, with a precious outcomes on beneficiaries getting double by time.
