Saeeda a 70 years old widow responsible of three daughters, four sons and two orphan grandsons whom she started taking care of them after her daughter passed away, they were living in Salah district -Taiz governorate suffering from poverty due to ongoing war in Yemen.

When the conflict intensified Saeeda and her family had to flee to Altaiziah district all living in a small Worn-out tent in an IDPs Site “Yes we were displaced from Salah district five years ago because of conflict and hunger. At first we were displaced to one of the community house yard that contains one room, we had only one blanket could it be used by me, my sons, my daughters, or my orphan grandsons?” Says Saeeda “Water of the rain was sealing from the roof and flow heavily in the ground of the tent, wind was storming the tent and plastic sheets, causing damage in tent and holes in the plastic sheets.

The most horrible of which were snakes, rats and dangerous animals that were sneaking to the tent through the holes in the plastic sheets that caused risk to me and my sons. We used to utilize bags of flour to put our clothes in and keep it away of rats.”

With the support of IOM, DEEM organization has helped hundreds of conflict-affected families like Saeeda’s in Taiz governorate with Cash grants to purchase NFIs & ESK. Saeeda’s family situation was highly improved compared to the situation before the cash assistant grant.” We purchased blankets that enabled us to face the cold weather and stay warm, keep the clothes safe from rats and dangerous insects as we purchased a closet to store them in. We purchased gas container, cooking tools that enabled us to cook at home safely, in a healthy way and more than that with dignity.

Also the organization Purchase high quality plastic sheets instead of the old ragged plastic sheets that caused risk to the family because of rats, snakes and dangerous insects that were sneaking from the holes.  More than that keep the rain out of the tent. “Now I can sleep safely knowing that my Sons are safe from snakes and insects, thanks to Allah, May he blesses you, and keeps you safe of any harm”.
